Hand-Wrapped Fiber Sculptures
Joel S. Allen
Friday, June 19, 9 am – 4 pm
Fee: $30 ($24 Members)
Ages 16 +
It’s time to get our wrap on! Using rhythm, tension and precision, we will explore a playful elegance using line to create form. With demonstrations and discussions about intention, process and technique, we will create a small scale, hand-wrapped fiber sculpture. We’ll cover everything from the basics of wrapping to exploring techniques for fabricating small scale parts, under-wrapping to build form, cover coats, seamless transitions, developing color and texture palettes, and opportunities for introducing mixed media materials into a composition. Participants are asked to bring their favorite yarns and a glue gun. A one-hour lunch break will be given.
Sidewalk Chalk Art
Saturday, August 22, 10 am – 12:30 pm
Fee: $10 ($8 Members)
Ages 8 + (children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult)
Ever wanted to try creating sidewalk art for Pastels on 5th but were intimidated by the process? This hands on workshop with an award winning artist will start inside with a short talk about the history of street painting, including 3D anamorphic art. Then we’ll go outside to learn the techniques to create your own 3D chalk art. Dress to get dirty, knee pads recommended, chalk included. See page 12 for information on Pastels on 5th.
