Watercolor painting has always interested Eric. Recently he has returned to its loose simplicity and began experimenting with encaustic which is a heated mixture of beeswax and crystalized tree sap. It was an ancient technique used by Egyptians as far back as the 6thcentury BC. By adding a layer to the wood mounted watercolor surface, Zimmer creates an object impervious to moisture. The small ‘tiles’ are composed into gridded patterns which can be easily arranged and rearranged by the viewer, giving them the opportunity to curate their own collection.
