Within the visual arts, there is often an academic disconnect between art and design. As is evident in certain artistic periods such as that of the Mid-20th Century, these lines are blurred almost beyond distinction. Loveland artist Doug Palmer’s long career as an artist shows how certain elements of design are absorbed into a painter’s vocabulary, which in turn reflect back upon other creative industries. With a range of paintings from 1963 through 2017, Palmer’s artwork, set among the depth of Loveland Museum’s own collection of historic design objects, shows this relationship and creates a snapshot of a time when the tenets of art and design exemplified a successful collaboration.
